2nd post of the day :)

So, after posting my first post today I looked over at this wall that is next to me. It's in pretty sad shape, I finally have had it with this wall. I did start pulling letters off the wall before I took this picture, and a couple of the button letters had fallen off for the millionth time and were waiting to get some buttons re-glued. This wall has water damage from the roof leaking a couple of years ago, yes I said years :) Sometimes things take a back seat when you live in an old house and have limited funds :)

Oh and there is spider webs and the wall is dirty, just keepin it real folks.

So, I pulled everything off the wall, cleaned it and hung up my amazing little quilt with push pins and it already looks better. Of course it still needs some fixing, I think this summer when we have the funds we will fix this wall and I want to repaint the whole kitchen. But for now, this quilt is hiding some of the walls problem, it doesn't bug me as much as it did before, and I get to admire my quilt, yay!

Last weekend I sold my things at Fleaology. I had never been before and now I am hooked!

There was so many beautiful things there and all for very reasonable prices. Too bad I'm lame and didn't take any pictures, they have some pictures on their blog you could go check out. The amazing quilt I found was only $5! It's about 36" square and I want to hang it on the wall somewhere. The pom pom trims are vintage and so much yummier than any brand new pom pom trims.

The two pieces of fabric I found were purchased at the Treasures Antique mall in Springville. That was the first time I had been there and I was lame again and didn't take pictures, there are two big buildings full of fun finds, I think Casey and I spent at least two hours there.

I also got the cutest little shelf for my girls, I'll share that when we find some time to clean up the playroom and find a place for it. And I found a really cute vintage dress for me, I'll share that later too.

Have a good weekend! I hope you have something fun planned! Around here there is going to be cleaning the playroom, getting rid of stuff, sewing, yummy weekend breakfasts, and just hanging out.

Fabric play

This pile of DS quilts fabric came home with me today, it's yummy and oh so soft.

This is the fabric I have decided to use for my swoon quilt. It's called Too Muchery by Helen Dardik. I have decided that I will be doing 5 swoon blocks and the other 4 blocks will be made of the panel print.

This might be weird, but I feel a little out of my comfort zone because this is all one collection, I have never made a quilt out of one collection, I usually go the mixy matchy route.

And this is my hope valley all cut and ready for my made in cherry quilt. Also a bit out of my comfort zone because it is one collection.

What have I gotten myself into joining two quilt alongs?

And I told myself I wasn't going to join any this year until I had all my unfinished quilts completed.

That worked well :)

Inspired

I had to take a picture of Sage's hair this morning cause just look how cute, I think it's so inspiring!

Kinsley did her hair, it's so cute to watch oldest sister do youngest sister's hair.

Speaking of being inspired. You may have noticed I haven't been around here much. In all honesty, I haven't felt like or been inspired to blog. Life is busy and I have had other concerns to take care of. I don't think I could ever entirely stop blogging, but I do think it will be less frequently. I blog for myself and to connect with others, I don't get payed for it. This month I will have been blogging for 4 years, I spent some time last week looking at some of my beginning posts and I had to laugh at some of them. I am glad I have improved my blogging skills some :)

Anyways, I hope you are having a lovely week. Ours has started a bit rough, Casey had a not fun day at work yesterday and Kinsley was throwing up last night, not sure if she is sick or if it is allergies to something she ate, I am pretty sure she is allergic to milk, but now I am also wondering if she could possibly have a wheat or gluten allergy also. Fun, fun, ha ha.

Here's to hoping this rough start will smooth itself out :)

piles

Piles is what describes everywhere around my house as of late. The above pile is a pretty one at least, a batch of dish cloths waiting to get the rest of their tags. I have other piles, like dishes, and laundry, and toys, and piles on the kitchen island. And piles and piles of cut out sewing projects.

I haven't been getting much done for the past two weeks, I have been sick with a cold turned sinus infection, I think I am finally on the mend though, still sick, but feeling more like myself. So, this finished project makes me super happy. Being sick and not feeling like doing anything but napping and playing Dr. Mario on the Wii kinda drives me nuts. I like getting stuff done so when I can't I kinda feel useless.

I always forget how much fun wrapping presents can be, even though it takes forever.

I used yarn, bits of fabric, twine, paper doilies, and plastic spray painted animals.

My favorite part about them is the spray painted animals. I got the idea for those here on She blogs She blogs.

Almost O Christmas tree

This is our Christmas tree. Can I tell you how much I love it? Ever since I seen something similar in the Anthropologie window a couple years ago, I knew I had to have Casey make me one someday. Today was the day, and I am in love with the outcome! We had zero budget to buy a Christmas tree, so we decided it was time for the wood one. We got all the wood for free, it use to be some sort of crate for something my Dad bought.

Now to figure out how we are going to decorate this thing. I am almost tempted to leave it plain, but I think my girls would be sad.

P.S. Casey put it together inside the house and it barely fits out the front door, good thing too, it was kindof an afterthought :)

I am super excited for these last two shows, I can't wait to see all the amazing handmade things.

You know what else I am excited for?

Getting back to normal life, not this sew every second of every day and night.

And maybe I can get some Christmas decorations up too :)

And clean my house.

And help finish cleaning up outside from our hurricane winds that we had last week, 102 miles per hour.

We lost part of our tree in our back yard, some shingles, and part of our fence blew down, but besides that we are okay and feel blessed, and we weren't without power as long as others. I'll share some pictures next week of some of the crazyness that was the street we live on, completely blown over 100 year old trees.

Anyways... If you are local come check out one or both of the shows! I am going to be on the lookout for stocking stuffers at both of them. I am sure I will find other things that I feel need to

come home with me too :)

A bag

This was my sewing summit swag bag. There is a contest to decorate it or repurpose it into another bag, just as long as it was still a bag. I decided to decorate mine.

I used new and vintage fabrics, lace, rick rac, pom poms that I made, and some embroidery.

I am excited with how it turned out and can't wait to use it.

Plus it gave me a little break from the whirlwind of sewing that I have been doing for holiday shows, it felt nice to make something for myself :)

Fabric and other things

Recently acquired fabric that I couldn't pass by, it's by Anna Griffin and it's called Penelope.

I think that it may become a skirt because how awesome would that be to have a skirt with sewing themed fabric?

I've lost my sewing mojo. Which is awful timing because I have waaayyy to much to do. I have been getting bits of lots of things done slowly, but I have got to kick it up a few notches here soon or I am going to be in trouble. You see all those shows that I am participating in I have listed in my sidebar? Yeah.

I'm really grateful that our family is pretty much healthy, but sometimes I get a bit frustrated with the few things that we do have to deal with. Sometimes it's hard to remember to do things daily so that my kids stay healthy and I get a bit overwhelmed at times. Add a diabetic husband to that and at times I think I worry too much.

I just need to do my best and be grateful that it's not things that are more serious than what they are :)

The diabetes thing is a hard one though.

My new favorite breakfast is Greek lemon yogurt with homemade granola on top, yum!

We have way too much candy in our house thanks to Halloween. I just ate a butterfinger after I finished my breakfast.

We took the girls trick or treating down main street of the city we live in.

We have Rapunzel, a witch, and a hula devil.

We'll be heading out to Casey's Mom's house in a bit to eat chili and maybe do a bit more trick or treating.

We'll miss my parent's house this year, my Dad is at the hospital getting a new knee.

Hopefully everything goes well with that.

This was Casey and I a few nights ago before we left for a party. Casey wanted to be a devil just so he could get some one piece long johns :) And I dressed as an angel, easiest costume ever, I already had everything.

Christmas Sweaters

Aren't these the cutest sweaters ever? I had to share them here cause I am dying over how freakin awesome they are. Some of the buttons are even from my great grandma that I have been saving for the perfect project.

So, I showed this picture to an aunt of mine that loves to crochet and asked if she could do something similar for my girls for Christmas.

I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome and I now have to restrain myself from giving them to my girls before Christmas :)

The best part? All I had to do was buy the yarn, and then we did a trade, she picked out some bags and wallets for herself and my two cousins, trading is the best!

The Sewing Summit

It's taken me forever to get around to recapping the Sewing Summit. It was such a surreal weekend, I look back at it and think did that really happen? Well, it did and it was so much fun! The above picture I borrowed from Dana, this is the fun group of ladies I hung out with the first day shopping at quilt shops, art market, and eating delish pizza. From left to right Leigh, Ann Marie (who we ran into at the quilt shop), Amy, Dana, Amy and me.

Dana and I, it was so much fun to be able to meet her in person, we have been online friends pretty much since I started blogging.

Dana planned a dinner on Friday night and gave everyone that attended these cute little pouches that she made and the sweetest little necklace from Cinnamon Sticks (who by the way I just met over this past weekend, I'll save that for another post though).

These ladies were hilarious, one night these two, Dana and I spent all night in the sewing room laughing until we cried, so much fun, I wish we all lived closer to one another.

This is almost half of the original group of A Notion or Two.

Whole wheat buttermilk pancakes

These are my favorite pancakes. Our favorite thing to do is top them with fresh fruit (we have done strawberries or this time we did fresh local peaches and raspberries from our garden). And I make homemade whip cream and top it all off with pure maple syrup, mmmmm.

Whole wheat buttermilk pancakes

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/4 tsp. salt

1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

1 cup buttermilk

1 Tbsp. oil

2 eggs

Mix first five ingredients together, then add buttermilk, eggs, and oil. I like to add a bit more buttermilk just so the pancakes are a bit fluffier.

For my family of five I usually double this recipe ( I have three hungry little girls :) )

I use my blendtec blender to make mine, first blending my wheat to make the wheat flour, than adding the other dry ingredients and blending it together, then adding the wet ingredients.

Fresh Whipped Cream

1 cup heavy whipping cream

a bit less than 1/4 cup agave nectar (or you could use powdered sugar)

about 1 tsp. of vanilla (I never really measure, I just put some in )

Fresh made whipping cream is so simple to make! (and so much tastier)

First, I put my mixer bowl and whisk attachment in the freezer, if I think about it I do it the night before I am going to make it, if not at least for 15 minutes or so before I am going to make it.

Then, put all the ingredients in the bowl and whip it on high until soft peaks form.

I know I have not been around here much, what can I say? Life is busy. I will be back soon with a review, and after that I have a finished quilt to share!

Crafty kids

My girls love to make things, I'm pretty sure they took after me :)

Jade and Sage are ALWAYS drawings things, there are always papers with their little drawings all over the house, the floor, the couch, the fridge, their room, taped on the walls, everywhere. One day, they were asking if they could make things to sell and we came up with these cards, they drew them, I outlined them in black marker and then I went and had them copied on cardstock, they even signed the back of them.

Kinsley likes to make these flowers on a little loom that she got for her birthday one year, they are hair clips.

All three girls like to make pom poms and they have started making hair elastics with them.

And they all love to hand stitch little bits of fabric together, so we came up with these headbands, I love watching them make these, they like to dump my big bag of fabric scraps out and search for the perfect fabrics :)

My crafty girls make me proud.

Ballet Bags

All three of my girls wanted to be in Ballet this year. So, they needed a little bag to carry their ballet shoes in, they all picked out their fabrics and what they wanted appliqued on it.

Jade's is the pink one with a mustache with eyes :), Kinsley's is the blue one with the flower, and Sage's is the velvet green one with a squirrel. I think it is super cute how their choices for their bags show their personality.

And gosh it's expensive to send three girls to ballet :)

I finished up these patchwork tote bags a bit ago. These were a happy accident. I was starting to clean up my fabric area and I had a whole bunch of upholstery fabric scraps that I just couldn't bear to part with. I added doilies and ribbons and lace to them too, I am happy with the outcome.

I am busy getting ready for next weekend, I have two shows, Oh Sweet Sadie, and The Avenues Street Fair.

Today I am thinking:
Why every time we get Casey's paycheck is it immediately gone? Seriously, what the crap?!
Being poor sucks, but hey we have lots of love around here :)
I'm glad our fridge and pantry are full of food, which makes me think of the delish freshly cut watermelon, I should eat some of that.
That my newly cleaned and organized fabric shelves are beautiful and they make me super inspired to sew.
I am making lasagna for dinner, yum!
It's kinda nice having the girls back in school, I think they like the routine, and I like that they don't argue and pester each other as much :)

10 years

10 years ago today I married my best friend. It was the best decision I have ever made.

It's not always easy, we have our moments of trials, but they usually don't last long. We don't like to be upset with each other, so we usually make up pretty quickly, plus making up is the best part :)

It doesn't really seem like it has been 10 years, it still feels like we are newlyweds, I think it may feel like that for the rest of forever. :)

Casey, thanks so much for making me laugh constantly, making me a better person, and thanks for loving me.

The girls started school on Monday, so far they love it.

I've been doing tons of sewing, here are some skirts I finished a few weeks ago, these were some of my favorites.

And just because I needed to add another quilt to my list of quilts in progress, I started another quilt last night. Using Denyse Schmidt's fabric from JoAnn's. I found some of the new Sugar Creek yesterday and had to play with it along with my collection of Picnic and Fairgrounds.

The idea for the quilt came from Diary of a Quilter, when I saw this vintage lattice quilt, I knew I had to recreate it. I love the slight wonkiness of it, and I am trying to make mine slightly wonky by varying the width of the strips in the string blocks.

I'm using a mustardy yellow color for my lattice, I had a bunch of it and it looked good with my other fabrics. I think it would be fun to make a red lattice one with some of my vintage fabrics.

Stuff

This is a picture of my girls in June when we went to Snowbird and stayed a couple days with my family, and yes that is snow behind them. I thought this was the coolest picture, it may not be the best picture, but I like it. We almost lost this picture along with some others that we hadn't backed up yet.

Our computer got some nasty virus last week, which had appeared to have made ALOT of things on our computer to have disappeared. Luckily, the place where we purchased our computer from was able to recover everything. And now our computer is virus free and happy :) And now we have a better antivirus program :)

I have been super busy with alot of things. Craft Lake City was this past Saturday which was fun and I took zero pictures. We have been camping which I also took zero pictures. By the way, camping is not for me :) I have been doing a TON of sewing and not taking pictures of that either. I have had extra time since not having a computer for a week, and I realized that I liked it alot.

Anyways, this past week, I have been thinking alot about how much time I have been spending online, and truthfully it is WAY too much and I think it has been making me unhappy and super over stimulated. There is so much fun and inspiring things online, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

There are way too many unread things in my google reader, and I think I just may mark them all as read, and I am going to go through and unsubscribe to a whole bunch of things, it is time for some simplification in my life, I want my time back, I enjoyed this past week without a computer, and my goal now is to spend alot less time on the computer and alot more time focusing on being with and taking care of my family and creating :)

Weekend

I have been working on a quilt for Jade, over the weekend I finished cutting all the pieces out. They are now organized so that I can quickly piece them together. It will still probably take me awhile to get the whole thing made though, I have too many other projects to work on too.

A local quilt shop has awesome deals on their clearance fabric section every fifth Saturday, so I went to see what they had and I ended up purchasing 8 yards of fabric all at 60% off! Not that I needed fabric :)

Casey and I went on a double date with one of his work friends, we ate at Joe's Crab Shack and went to see Crazy, Stupid, Love, which gave us a good laugh.

It is rainy here today, I like summertime rain, it smells delish.

Recent projects

I finished a small batch of purses this week, the hot air balloons are my fave, they are made of a vintage velvet upholstery fabric and they are so soft.

I made Jade and Sage a new dress, I will be making Kinsley one too, I just had to order another yard of fabric to make hers. Looking at this picture, the pink one looks like the pockets are uneven, they aren't, I just made Jade run in here because she is wearing it so I could check it. I absolutely love this fabric, it is by Tina Givens and it is called Opal Owl, Kinsley's will be in a blue color :) The sleeves and pockets are from vintage sheets, I had striped ones to match each dress perfectly.

I've been busy this summer with kids and cleaning, and sewing for shows, among other things. This blog of mine has taken a back seat to everything, sometimes I just don't have the time or desire to blog. I will say this though, I LOVE when I get comments, I don't have ads or sponsors for this little blog of mine, so really, my rewards are in your comments :) I feel like no one comments anymore, I don't know if that is just because my posts are super boring, or if people are just too busy to comment or what. I get super excited when I get comments, whether it is from someone who has commented before, or a new commenter. The Batman water tower

We have driven by this water tower many times, each time I forget to take a picture. And I have thought, what if they paint over it and we never get a picture of it, then I would be sad.

Your probably wondering why I would be sad if I never got a picture of it, I know kindof odd. Well, one night long ago, my husband and his friends climbed up that water tower. My husband stood on his friends shoulders and painted that Batman. And now I have pictures for our posterity.

But, that doesn't mean that I am condoning climbing up water towers and risking your life to paint Batman or anything else on it, because that would be vandalous and stupid. :)

A year ago I found this little chair. It took me this long to get around to doing something to it :)

I painted it yellow and put a bird on the seat. The fabric for the seat came from Ikea, I think it turned out just right. I will say it isn't perfect, I think someone handmade the chair which I think adds to its character. This little chair will come with me to Bella's Vintage Market because I can't justify keeping it for my girls that are maybe just a little bit too big for it.

I made up a small batch of potato salad for dinner later. Homemade potato salad is just so yummy. Dinner tonight will consist of grilled hot dogs (cause that is the only way to eat a hot dog). On those hot dogs will be potato salad, raspberry chipolte barbecue sauce and bacon bits. Except the children will probably just have a plain old boring hot dog. And we have quite the variety of fruits and veggies cut up in the fridge to go with it. Does anyone else just mostly want to eat fruit and veggies in the summer?

Now if you are thinking that hot dog concoction sounds weird, you should really try it, I thought it sounded weird but one night we were at one of my shows and Da HotDog King was there. Umm, it was delish and I have been craving one ever since. Oh, and it was called the Picnic dog. I will say the dessert dog was a little on the weird side for me :)

I'm excited for dinner :)

Getting back in sewing mode

I am trying to get back into sewing mode. I have been taking a break for a few weeks, but now I have to get to work, I have shows coming up and things that I need to stock up on.

It's grey and rainy here today, the rain smells lovely, I usually like rain in the summertime, but I was a little disappointed at the weather today. Casey had to drive to Bear Lake for work and I had the thought of going with him and spending the day at the beach, the kids would have loved it. But the weather wasn't the best for hanging out on the beach :(

I've been cleaning and organizing areas of the house, on Saturday we had a yard sale and made a bit of money and got rid of alot of stuff which always feels good.

My brother redid our tile by the backdoor. It was white and I hated it, I would clean it and then two seconds later it would be dirty. So now it is a tan color and it looks so much better and I won't have to be bugged by the dirt because I won't be able to see it. :)

The girls are still getting use to spending so much time together :)

I swear when something in our house breaks, it tells everything else to break soon too. First it was the furnace, then the swamp cooler, the toilet, and now our washer is leaking. The joys of home ownership :) All that aside though, I really do love my home.

Nutella makes everything delish. We've been eating pretzels, graham crackers, and smores with it, yum!

Now I must go start a new sewing project and maybe wash the dishes.

Summer show schedule

First up is Bella's Vintage Market, this is going to be held at Wheeler Farm on July 9th and I am super excited, their will be lots of vintage and handmade yumminess!

Next up, starting on July 14th, every Thursday through August 25th I will be at the Twilight Concert series at Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City. This will be so much fun, I get to sell my stuff and listen to music!

And last, but certainly not least, I get to be at Craft Lake City again! This is definitely a not to miss event!

I am excited for all my events I am participating in this year, summertime events are always fun because I get to be there with my things and interact with customers. Come and introduce yourself to me!

A summertime snowball fight

Last weekend my parents took the whole family up to Snowbird. We have family members moving out of state soon and my parents wanted to get everyone together before that happened.

Here is Casey and I at the peak of the mountain, there was still SO MUCH snow. There were people skiing and snowboarding the whole time we were there, crazy for June. The guy that took us on the gondola ride up the mountain said that all the snow will probably not melt this year, he said that this time last year it was pretty much gone.

It was also sunny and bright, so here is a squinty face picture of the girls.

Shop Hop!

I wasn't originally planning on going to all of Shop Hop, but my girls said they wanted to go, so go we went.

They were so good too, I was pleasantly surprised, especially since to finish the whole thing I bet it took us around 12-14 hours, but we did spread it out between 3 days. Here's my pile of goodies, there is also an order of fabric that came in the mail yesterday in there.

I thought I would break it down into separate purchases, for some reason most of the time when I purchase fabric it usually all coordinates. And it is not because I have a project in mind for it, I buy fabric because I love it and then I figure out later what to do with it.

This was my order from Fabric.com, most of it is AMH Loulouthi except for the three on the right.

These are some of favorites that I got, that yellow is from Lecien and it feels oh so lovely, I have a piece of vintage fabric that it feels just like it. Oh and see? I told you I coordinate my purchases :)

This was actually from two shops, that yellow and black on the left was from one and the rest came from another. Aren't the bikes and the green one with the birds and what looks like bike wheels on it so cute? They are organic from Birch Fabrics and they feel lovely.

These ones were just over $4 a yard, and there were many, many more yummy feedsack prints that I wanted, but I restrained myself because I had already spent too much money. :)

At the shop where I purchased these ones, my girls were just playing around, but they kept saying that they were biting each other and I got a little tired of it, and I said the next time I hear that someone is biting, I am going to bite you all. They thought that was the funniest thing ever and couldn't stop laughing :)

These were all my free goodies! some fat quarters, some fat eighths, a charm pack for finishing the whole shop hop, a little kit to make a bookmark, and a toadstool pincushion kit. Jade won a couple games too and she picked out fabric for herself, she didn't even want to share it with me which I thought was cute.

We had fun driving about the whole Wasatch valley, not sure if I would do it again, but my girls and I had fun, it makes me happy that they are grown up enough to enjoy something like this with me. :)

Right now I am happy that my herbs are growing beautifully, and so far the garden we have planted is doing well.

And I am admiring my new orange flip flops.

I have kindof been taking a break from my usual routine. I know I haven't been blogging as much. I haven't done nearly as much sewing, I just haven't been feeling it. I have done a few sewing projects, and started projects, but then I just don't feel like finishing them at the moment. I have been going through areas in my home, finding things to get rid of, my family likes to have a yard sale every summer, so I am getting ready for that. It feels good to go through things. I have plans for changing up my bedroom, and there are areas in our home I have been wanting to paint. Who knows, I may even try to tackle the storage room (it's a disaster).

I guess I am in need of changes, I have felt it for awhile now. I think our home just needs some freshening up and organizing and I think I will get my sewing mojo back after that.

And since the girls are out of school I really need to get around to making up some sort of chore chart like I have been wanting to do forever.

Casey and I are making the trek to Provo to go to The rooftop concert series. I am going to pack a picnic, I am excited to hang out with my hot husband :)

Casey wants to go fishing on Saturday, I personally hate going fishing, so we will see if I go with.

I am currently listening to Broken Bells and thoroughly enjoying the last day that my children will be at school.

I plan on tidying up the house today, going shopping for some picnic food, and working on some sewing projects.

A new shower curtain!

I have been wanting to make one forever and finally got around to it. This is our tiny bathroom, the only bathroom in our house :) That is definitely one thing we will want in our next home, more than one bathroom, even my girls have requested that of our next house :) What can I say? We have a cozy home :)

I am in love with this quilt already. It has taken me forever to get around to finishing it up, I am hoping to get the back put together tonight so that I can get it sent to be quilted. It is queen sized for our bed, yay!

Most of the blocks I received from members of A Notion or Two last year when it was my turn. I pieced them all together with scrappy sashing, I love, love, love it! I also won long arm quilting for it from The Back Porch Quilters back in December and I have been bad and taken forever to get around to it.

In other news:

Casey and I purchased a new furnace today, so now all my shows this summer will get to pay for it :(

It will make our gas bill go down in the winter and will heat our house better, and we payed a bit extra to get a better filter, so it will filter the air in our house even better. The guy that came today said that our furnace would be condemned, it was super old and falling apart, I figured it wouldn't be able to be fixed, I think it was about 30 years old.

That nicely weeded patch of dirt in the picture, is at this moment being tilled up and we will finally get a garden planted. It has been super rainy and wet this year again, so I hope we can still get some yummy things from the garden.

This is the last week of school for the girls, they are excited for summertime :)

It will be fun to have them home, but maybe not so fun to hear some of their bickering sometimes :)

I think that's it for today, I am going to go figure out what plants we need to go purchase for the garden :)

Party favors for Jade's Birthday

My Dad showed up at my door one day with these in hand. He likes to shop at this discount shop that is by his Popsicle plant.

He thought I may be able to use them for something. When Jade saw them, she asked if we could use them for her party favors, I said sure!

So, I covered them in kraft paper (it actually was a recycled paper grocery bag).

Then I added bits of Japanese tape and papers and stamped them.

Then I had the thought of making small stationary sets to put inside.

Here's what I ended up putting in each one. I purchased a package of round white sticker labels and stamped them. I raided my stash of scrapbook papers and made cards. I found little packages of tiny pens in the dollar section at Target, and I had the envelopes already.

Jade was pretty excited with the outcome as am I, it makes me happy when something like this turns out to be so much fun.

Now we just have a ton of cherry cola pop rocks :)

There was birthday dinner at The Spaghetti Factory for Jade. We parked across the street and walked on this overpass, if we jumped up and down, the whole thing would move, kindof freaky.

I love this smile. She was sung to and had a birthday candle in her spumoni ice cream.

It's been pretty rainy here for quite some time, but on Saturday it was beautiful and we had a picnic in the backyard.

It included a new found treat agave root beer, yum!

And another new to me treat is veggie chips. I was a little hesitant to purchase them, but these are so good, the carrots are my fave. I think I am going to have to try dehydrating carrots myself.

Other happenings: Casey and I went to The Pirates of the Caribean, Johnny Depp makes for a yummy pirate :) I finished up my season of spring craft shows yesterday. I get a small break until the first of July, and then I will be participating in Bella's Vintage Market, it looks like it will be a fun event.

So, Sage's birthday was almost a month ago and here I am today finally posting about it :)

This was her homemade chocolate cake for the family party, YUM! Homemade is the best.

She is so stinkin cute, I love her.

This little set up was for her party with friends. Sage LOVES stuffed animals, and when I found these bunnies for 50 cents a piece, I immediately thought it would be a fun activity for Sage's party. I also found little sweaters for them for super cheap, so I just made little skirts for them. So when the girls started arriving, they picked a bunny, fabric and ribbon. We made a flower to embellish the skirt and ribbons for the ears.

And here are the favors we sent the girls home with, a watermelon flavored rock candy sucker and I don't know if you can tell or not, but I made little tiny banners and wrapped them around those little cardboard pieces that bias tape is wrapped on. That was a good scrap buster project. All I did was cut about 2 inch triangles with my pinking rotary blade, I just eyeballed them, no pattern. Then I sewed them onto ribbon that was about a yard long, leaving tails on each end for hanging. Easy peasy!

Yep, it's turning into a food blog

It's not really turning into a food blog, not that that would be a bad thing. This was my delish lunch, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to eat, and this Jicama I got in my Bountiful basket was staring at me. I have never tried Jicama before, so I googled Jicama recipes and found this one. I am so glad I tried it, cause, YUM, it just tastes so fresh and crunchy, and YUM! Now I have to figure out what to do with the rest of the Jicama, cause that thing was huge and I still have half of it left.

Things I did over the weekend:

I went to the Blogger's quilt market meet-up. It was fun, but really hard for me to put myself out there, I am so shy, it was a good thing I knew some people that came, it helped. Maybe I will share the one pic I have of the whole thing if I can convince myself that my face doesn't look fat.

We cleaned up our yard a bit, it looks alot better, but there is still alot of work to be done. We really need to get our garden planted, but I look at all the weeds and feel overwhelmed.

We have finally started to have nice spring weather here and I couldn't be happier, it makes me really want to finish getting the yard cleaned up and the patio cleaned off and to eat every meal outside.

So, I am participating in Elsie Marley's Kids clothes week challenge. I have been a bit of a slacker, having two kids home with pink eye has taken a toll on free time this week :) They are all at school today though. I have cut out 3 different sizes of the Oliver and S ice cream dress pattern, and have one of the dresses cut out, but I am having a hard time getting excited to sew with a pattern. Patterns and I do not get along, I think I just don't have the patience for them.

I did make this skirt this morning though. I purchased the brown gingham yesterday, I knew immediately that I wanted to make a skirt out of it, and Jade's birthday is coming up soon, so it was perfect.

I added a little apron trimmed with big ric rac and a doily, and also the French vintage eyelet trim at the bottom. I love how it turned out, I would so wear this if it was my size.

I think you may finally almost be here, I am excited for warm sunny days.

Dear Pink Eye,
I would like to tell you that we haven't enjoyed your visit in our home, first it started with Sage, and then Jade got it because she would help Sage clean her eyes in the morning, and apparently didn't wash her hands well enough. (Jade is like a little Mom sometimes) I am so ready to not hear whining about hurting eyes. I know it hurts and I feel really bad and wish I could just make it better. But, I am super amazed how the body can heal itself using natural things instead of getting a prescription for something that isn't natural. Flushing with colloidal silver, and using essential oils has been our friend these past few days, even if there may be a bit of resistance to it from the infected girls.

Dear lady at the school,
Yes, I have not taken my children to the doctor for their pink eye. Yes you can get rid of pink eye without antibiotics, (gasp!). Sage's eyes are pretty much all better and I sent her to school today. I just don't feel like I need to run to the doctor for everything. Of course doctor's and modern medicine have their place, but if I know that I can treat something minor without going to the doctor, I will do it, and it is my choice to do it, I feel like it is better for my family. Thanks.

I don't know why but I haven't been able to catch up on you since I have been back from my trip with my Mom and sister's, ummmm... that was about 3 weeks ago. I don't think that Mr. Pink Eye has helped any either, with all the millions of towels I have to keep washing.

First I know that this pizza was the best pizza I have ever made. It had wheat crust too! The secret was brushing the crust with olive oil and baking it for a bit before adding the toppings. Toppings on Casey and my pizza included; caramelized onions, orange pepper, artichokes, and olives, delish! The kids are a bit boring, we have one that will only eat plain cheese, and the other two had pepperoni and olive.

Now I want to make pizza again!

Other things I know:

I'll be honest, I haven't really been feeling it lately.

I am falling in love with cooking again. I can make some pretty darn good food if I do say so myself.

I have sortof been obsessing about feeding my family healthy, I think it has been paying off though, we haven't been sick in quite some time. The occasional cold maybe, but nothing major. Casey even seemed to be coming down with something and I think we may have averted it with the help of essential oils and some cayenne pepper.

Even though I could still make a few more things for my shows this weekend, I am not going to do it. I made some bags today that still needs their snaps, but after I do that I am done. I have too many other things to do this week. I got a call yesterday asking if I would be in charge of decorating one of the teacher's doors for teacher appreciation week, that has to be done on Friday. We are having two birthday parties for Sage this weekend, one on Friday with friends, and one on Sunday with Family. So that means I have to clean the house too :) Good thing it is not in too bad of shape. I do have a ton of laundry though.

I still have to get some details together for Sage's party with friends too. Is there ever enough time in a day?

I say no.

Let's see what else do I know? I think I have lost a little weight, maybe because of the obsessing about healthy food. I was able to put a pair of pants on that awhile ago I couldn't. Casey and I need to start working out regularly. We do good for a bit and then don't, it's a cycle. I really want to lose about 15 lbs. or so, plus it just feels good to work out. Have I told you it has been probably since last year that I have purchased cereal? I am pretty proud of it too. Most of it is just not healthy, too much sugar. The only cereal I have bought is bran flakes and all bran, mostly to make muffins with, although I bought a box of bran flakes last week to make muffins and my kids ate it all before I was able to make the muffins they were intended for.

Which leads me to, sometimes I can't believe how much food their little bodies can eat. Alot of times it is more than I eat. Growing children I guess, piglets I say.

I am rambling on and on today aren't I?

I can't stop listening to Waking Up by One Republic.

We got our tax return back and I purchased alot of fabric, I'll share pictures soon cause I can't resist a picture of pretty fabric.

We probably have to buy a new furnace, I just don't feel like dealing with it. We have been using space heaters for the past month, luckily it hasn't been too bad and there has been times when we haven't needed them on. I guess since we did get our tax return and have money to either fix it or get a new one I should get on that huh? Stupid furnace.

The Mall of America with my Mom and Sisters was fun, interesting but fun. You see, I am the oldest of six kids, then my two brothers are the next oldest, and then I have three sisters. So I sortof feel like I didn't grow up with my sisters and I am not use to the drama that they have. Although I can see that same drama in my three girls, oh what am I in for when they are older?

Easter weekend

I would say we have had a nice relaxing Easter weekend. Saturday there was an egg hunt at my parent's house. There is no Kinsley in the picture because she wanted in on the big people egg hunt where there was more money involved :)

Today, it was waking up to Easter baskets, church, family visits, and napping.

Experimenting with sugar free alternatives

If you have read my blog for probably any amount of time, you would notice that I try baking things with sugar alternatives. One of the big reasons is because Casey is Diabetic, but there are other reasons too, sugar is not healthy for anyone. I also have issues with using the chemical alternatives to sugar, I just would rather use something that is natural.

Anyways... I was excited when a representative from Xylitol USA contacted me because I have been wanting to try xylitol and I have only heard good things about it from others. What is Xylitol you ask? Here is some information about it.

I decided to make some chocolate chip cookies using xylitol. I used the recipe I talked about in this post.

I made a few changes, first swapping the white sugar for xylitol, and I did half and half white and wheat flour, and I used dark chocolate not semi-sweet. In the pictures they look a little overdone, but they are not, they are darker because of the wheat flour. These cookies are soft and chewy and delish. I actually think that me using half wheat flour affected the recipe more than the xylitol. I can not tell a difference with using the xylitol, and I can not tell you how excited that makes me.

There is a couple other reasons I am excited about xylitol; it doesn't allow bad bacteria to grow, which will be helpful with my youngest daughter and her UTI's. And it is good for your teeth. I put an order in for a few things to try out, toothpaste, lollipops, candy and gum, I'll let you know what I think about those when I have a chance to try them. I would feel so much better about letting my kids have a treat knowing that it is made with xylitol and that it has health benefits. And I think I may have finally found a natural alternative to sugar that actually acts like sugar does, yay!

A quilt block and other stuff

I finally got around to finishing up my very last block for A Notion or Two, this one was from January. What a bad bee member for me to take so long, tisk tisk.

I found this little paper in the recycling pile this morning, it made me happy.

Bijou Market was a success, plus look at the fun things I traded for. I think trading is the best part :)

The water spigots are probably going to be made into a jewelry display. I traded those and the hand drawn bicycle cards with Blue Door. The purple lace cards I traded with fifth & hazel.

I always seem to forget after having a few months break, how much energy participating in shows takes. They are always tons of fun, and I am always so exhausted after, the good kind of exhausted though :)

Tie necklaces

I have had this box of ties that I have been collecting for years, most of them are vintage. My original plan was to make a tie skirt for myself, well that hasn't happened. So I decided to make some necklaces out of some of them. Sorry for the not so great pictures, it is rainy and dark today. I am pretty happy with the outcome of these, we'll see if anyone else likes them when they make their debut this weekend at the Bijou Market.

This one is my favorite. I made use of some of the doilies I bought yesterday.

Sage liked this one too, so we are keeping it. She was being goofy and this was the best picture I could get :)

Seventy cents

So, today I purchased these doilies for 70 cents, it totally made my day, there is something like 83 doilies.

Less than a penny a piece, I am such a nerd to be so happy over doilies :)

So, I know I haven't been around here much. I have been busy getting ready for upcoming shows.

Plus our family has had alot of stressful things going on for the past few months and I haven't felt in the best of spirits the past few weeks and didn't want that to spill out here. Everything is okay, I have just been super stressed and worried, and I start crying easily which makes me feel super lame. I guess I am just human.

I do have to say that I am super super grateful for such supportive family.

I have had something to look forward to though. Next week my Mom is taking me and my sisters to the Mall of America for a shopping spree! I am super excited to get away and have fun going shopping with money that is not mine :)

It is a much needed break that is coming at the most perfect time.

It is also the first time I will be away from Casey and the kids for more than a day, it will be interesting to see what state the house will be in when I return :)

So, I haven't felt like blogging. I have felt like cooking things instead, and not taking pictures of it. I did take a couple pictures. I made Strawberry freezer Jam the over the weekend because we were running low, I sweetened it with agave nectar, yum!

I made an apple pie (baked in a paper bag), along with applesauce, and apple juice. We got a case of organic fuji apples a couple of weeks ago and they are yummy. Fuji apples are my favorite, they are crisp and just the right amount of sweet. That pie is now gone and I think I may make another, with fresh made whip cream it is so delish. Now we also have a case of oranges and I really want to make some fresh juice.

The girls made a fort in their room over the weekend, they even slept in it. After I took this picture Casey came home and helped them remake it even bigger and better. That is pretty much all they did over the weekend was play in the fort.

There has been crafting but no pictures of it. This morning we had a scare with the furnace, we thought that we may have to get a new one, but after it was fiddled with, I guess it just needed reset. Cross your fingers that was all it needed, we can't and don't want to buy a new furnace at the moment :)

Oh, and I found out about Swiss Days, I am an alternate, so if someone drops out, there is a chance I will still get in. I'm not sure how I feel about that, I think I would almost rather just have had a yes or a no answer. Then I could at least know if I need to prepare or not, oh well.

Kinsley, you might have turned 11 almost a month ago, and I might have forgotten to post about it. Sometimes Moms forget things :)

Kinsley, I am amazed everyday that I have a daughter that is 11 now.
ELEVEN. holy. cow.
Beautiful, smart, funny, crafty, kind, happy, a leader, silly, these are just a few words I can think of to describe you. And you are getting older, older as in you aren't playing with toys as much, older as in if I can't find you, you are most likely on your bed reading. Also every once in awhile I can catch a glimpse of what we may be in for with you as a teenager :) Just promise me that you will always hug and kiss me and say I love you back, okay?

And I love that you are starting to like doing your own hair, I think it's super cute, plus look at that hairdo! It's awesome and you did it all by yourself.

My intentions were to take a before picture of this project. Yeah well that didn't happen, I guess I was a little too excited to just get it done :)

I found this little display shelf at the thrift store for $3.00.

I cleaned it up, spray painted it a lovely tangerine orange color, and mod podged vintage wallpapers on it. Some of which were sent to me so sweetly by Jessie. I have been saving them for the perfect project and this was it! By the way if you haven't seen Jessie's cute party supply shop, Shop Sweet Lulu, you should go check it out.

Casey and I spent Friday hanging out while the kids were at school, he played hooky from work, well sorta, he still was on the phone, but he didn't go in. We went to lunch and hung out at some of my fave local shops. Everywhere we went I got comments on my Miss Ruby Sue necklace. Can I tell you much much I love this necklace? I love it, like ALOT.

We went to Pecos Bill at the Children's theatre, my parents bought us season tickets for Christmas, it's so much fun, our kid's love it, and it was so much better than another toy that we don't have room for.
I made my own wheat thin crackers over the weekend, they were okay, but I am now on a quest to make my own crackers so I never have to buy them. Has anyone made their own crackers and have any good recipes or any tips?

I wonder how many blog posts I have titled grateful. Well, I guess I am grateful ALOT :)

Today I am extremely grateful for my Heavenly Father. He watches over our family alot.

I was woken up around 12:45 this morning to the sound of Casey using his glucose meter. (He's Diabetic) I immediately knew that something was up. When it beeped to let him know what his blood sugar was, he told me it was 56. A normal person's blood sugar is 100, so 56 is super super low, and it is the lowest Casey has ever been, Like low enough that I was surprised that Casey even knew that he needed to check it, he was in a state of diabetic hypoglycemia. Basically, he was really confused, really weak, sweaty, and needed some food super fast. Here is what I think is amazing; Casey occasionally gets phone calls in the middle of the night for work, he is in charge, and sometimes has to deal with issues that come up, no matter what time it is. Anyways, what even woke him up was one of these phone calls. If he wouldn't have been woken up by this phone call, I most likely would have been the one to wake up to a husband having a seizure, or in a diabetic coma. That is definitely some divine intervention right there. There was definitely prayers of thanks being said in our home this morning.
I am so grateful that Casey was woken up at the exact time his blood sugar was so low so that we could treat it instead of having to call an ambulance. He had a nice little snack of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, an orange, some milk, and some chocolate to raise his blood sugar.
He felt so much better this morning. I won't lie, I was a bit scared and after the whole thing was over, I was crying tears of gratefulness for my Heavenly Father who was watching over us.
I know in my heart that Heavenly Father is real and he is here for each and every one of us, and I am so grateful for that knowledge.

I love what President Dieter F. Uchtdorf said that I found in this article:

"Our Father in Heaven has given us, His children, much more than any mortal mind can comprehend. Under His direction the Great Jehovah created this wondrous world we live in. God the Father watches over us, fills our hearts with breathtaking joy, brightens our darkest hours with blessed peace, distills upon our minds precious truths, shepherds us through times of distress, rejoices when we rejoice, and answers our righteous petitions."

My heart is so full today. I am so happy that Casey is okay, he is my best friend, he is the father of my children, he is my life, and I owe all these blessings to my Heavenly Father.

Clothes pins

I have wanted to dress up some clothespins for awhile now, and I finally got around to it the other day. They took alot longer than I thought they would, but I enjoyed making them.
First I spray painted them, luckily I have quite the collection of spray paint.
Then I mod podged some paper that I had on them, when that was dry, I sprayed a clear coat on them. They are so colorful and springy, which is exactly what I need today, it is dark and rainy here today. I do love how the air smells after a good rain though :)

Best sugar cookies EVER

These are by far the best sugar cookies I have ever made or tasted.
Yesterday I ate an undisclosed amount of them.
I found the recipe here.
I have one tip, I had to keep adding small amounts of milk to the icing until
it was a good consistency. Also, I halved the recipe and it made a ton.
Be warned: you will want to eat them all.

Remember this scrappy table runner? Well, it's been sitting patiently waiting to be used, and I just haven't used it so I decided to list it in my shop. I am quite happy with my shop as of late, I have it well stocked and I have been selling a few things which is has been helping out with our finances a bit :) I am very grateful for all who have been making purchases.

Yesterday I was working on upcycling some ties, I had some bits left and decided to make some hair bows with them, here are some of my faves. I think they are so cute!

Currently, I have about 6 different projects in the works, does anyone else do this? They are not small projects either, they are very large batches of things. I think I get stuff cut out and then I am sick of it and have to move on to something else until I feel like going back to a project.
Here's what I have going at the moment:

kid's aprons
girl's bags
tie necklaces
dish towels

And as I said they are in large quantities :) Sometimes I think I am crazy.

Now onto another subject. I have been finding myself enjoying cooking again. Once upon a time before I decided to turn my sewing hobby into a business, I use to cook wonderfully delish and healthy meals. Participating in Bountiful Baskets has helped me to do that again and I am loving it! Plus, we get to sometimes try new things that we may not have tried by ourselves.
This last week some of the new things I tried were: Mangoes (I don't know why I had never tried a fresh mango before, YUM!) and we also got to try sunchokes, we had them in a stir fry and I quite enjoyed them, to me they sortof taste something like a carrot and a water chestnut.

This weekend I hope to get some projects finished, maybe drag Casey to a Diabetic Expo, and just hang out with my family.

A wardrobe for a doll

Kinsley's birthday was over the weekend. One of the things she requested was clothes for her American Girl doll. I decided she would also need somewhere to put all those clothes, so I modge podged a thrifted train case for her.

Not all the thrifted train cases I have found still have their little tray, this one did, it was perfect for shoes and accessories.

And the clothes fit perfect underneath.

I ended up buying a few things that I didn't want to make or couldn't make myself.

I ended up making two dresses. My favorite being the one on the right, I used a whole bunch of vintage lace and ribbons.

I made three different skirts, these were so much fun for me. Then I made a headband and a couple hair clips. And a bag with a little wallet.
I had to make myself stop making things, it was so much fun, and to see her face when she opened it up was priceless :)

Today I am grateful for many things:

The beautiful sunshine that has shone on our weekend, it's been a beautiful weekend here. As I sat on my front porch this afternoon getting a good dose of vitamin D, I caught a glimpse of spring, birds singing, sun shining, I didn't even need a sweater, it was lovely.

I am grateful for essential oils and am amazed at their healing powers, I have seen it with Sage.

I am grateful that Casey and I got a night to ourselves this weekend, I always love spending time just Casey and I. I love him.

I am grateful for leftovers from said above night out, they are yummy :)

I am grateful that even though Casey likes to go on "mountain drives" aka four wheeling in his Subaru, that even though he got it stuck in 2 foot deep of snow in a ditch, that him and my children were safe and so was our car. And it just so happened that Kinsley was with her biological Father and had forgotten a pair of shoes she needed, and he was driving to come pick them up just as Casey called me to tell me he was stuck. I am grateful that Morgan (Kinsley's biological father) volunteered to help out. Because I wasn't very excited about locating my Dad's Suburban and trekking up the mountain myself. I do not like driving my Dad's Suburban that thing is a beast, so I would be especially nervous driving it up the mountain :)

I am grateful for quite moments to myself to gather my thoughts and putter about the house straightening things up and working on projects.

I am grateful that my back feels a bit better than it did a few days ago, and I can putter about and get things done.

In general I am just grateful, life is good :)

This picture really has nothing to do with this post except that I needed something to laugh at, and this has got to be one of my favorite pictures ever. Jade, in the cow costume was saying moo, and apparently knew how to milk a cow :)
It was taken in 2006 at the Children's Museum , man my girls are little in this picture, they grow up so fast. Anyways...

Do you ever have what seems like a million things to do, but you wake up and know instantly that none of it is going to get done?
That is me today. And I hate it.
Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat, so I gargled some water with cayenne pepper in it, which works awesomely, and I will continue to do that until my throat no longer hurts. But last night I also started having what I can only describe as a pinched nerve in my back. Every once in awhile it happens to me and it makes it very painful to turn my head or really do anything. Basically it sucks, and all I can do is wait it out. If I was rich I would try going to an acupuncturist , but I don't have the funds for that. So instead I am using some essential oils and taking it easy today and probably for a few days. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks for me to get totally back to normal :( I even remember having this happen as a child.

Too bad I just finished reading the Hunger Games series of books, which by the way was awesome, and I can't wait until the movie comes out. I'm kindof at a loss as to what to do today, I am so use to being busy busy all the time that when I can't really do much, I don't know what to do. (that sounds funny)
Does anyone have any suggestions of books to read, or any good movies? Maybe I can send Casey to the library later today. I can probably get him to cook dinner too :)

playing catch up

I have been super behind for A Notion or Two. I got almost caught up today. Now I only have one more block left, yay!

I don't know why it took me so long to sit down and get these done, but it feels good to almost be all caught up! I decided that this year I wouldn't participate in any bees or swaps, I just have too much going on and I needed to cut something out, they have been super fun though!

Weekend happenings

We had a lovely weekend. I participated in Art Market on Friday. I purchased that cute owl in my valentines tree. Jeni Gochnour made it, isn't it so cute?!

I love it! It's the whole reason I even decorated for Valentines day :)
After I came home with my cute owl, I went outside and found a branch to hang him on.
Then I wrapped snippets of yarn around some of the branches and made some heart ornaments out of a felted wool sweater. I put the branch in a cute French lemonade bottle with some rice for some more weight.

The deer, oh the deer! I found these at a secondhand shop near my mother in laws house a couple weekends ago and painted them this teal blue color. I love them, the lady that owned the store said they were from the 1950's.

Look at the back of my owl, and those stripey straw legs! So, so cute!

Other weekend happenings:
On Saturday, Casey went to his Mom's house to help her with some things, the girls went with him too, so I had the majority of the day to myself to happily work on sewing projects. I cut out over 40 kid's aprons and over 40 girl's purses. Is it sad that I had more than enough fabric on hand to do so?

I turned 31 years old
We woke up late for church yesterday, Casey declared that it was my birthday and we were going to head up to Park City. So, Casey made us some lunch, then we headed to Park City where we found some cute striped cardigans and cute denim vests for the girls for a super deal.
I purchased the cutest floral cardigan that I have had my eye on at Old Navy, lucky for me it was 1/2 off. Have I mentioned before that I have quite the extensive cardigan collection? I have a weakness for them :) We also went to the World Market, I love that place, we always pick some yummy treats when we go there.
After Park City we went to my parents house where we had strawberry shortcake, yum!
Tonight we get to go to dinner for my birthday at Rainbow Gardens, I'm excited, it's yummy!

The Wiener Dog quilt!

I am so excited that I finally get to share this quilt!
This is my favorite quilt I have made yet.
It is now presiding with my sister waiting for my nephew Preston to arrive.

I originally had started making my sister a different quilt.
But then I saw Dare to be square quilting by Boo Davis, and when I saw the wiener dog quilt I had to make it.

I used gingham for the back, so cute!

And I used Kona solids and some prints from my stash.
I was a little scared to attempt this initially, I was worried I wouldn't be able to match everything up right, but it was pretty simple and fun to make.

So, I just got home from taking my application to the post office. My application to Midway Swiss Days. This is big people. Like a show that I am guessing will be at least five times what my biggest show is. And I thought my biggest show was big. I tried many times to talk myself out of it, I had many excuses. But I made myself do it. I told myself you only live once, and you know that if you don't try at least once you will be sad. So I did it, and now I have to wait and see if they think my stuff is cool enough to be at Swiss Days. If I get in I think I might pee my pants a little. And if I don't get in then I guess I won't pee my pants, and that will be okay.

And just in case, I am going to start preparing like a mad women because that is what I am for applying :)

This week I am finishing putting together a baby shower for one of my sisters. I put little garlands on the invitations.

I still have to finish making a few gifts for her too. I finished her quilt but I can't share it with you until I give it to her, I can't wait!

A sweet little heart and a new crush

Homemade Granola

So, last Thursday I went to Kelly's natural health support group meeting.
The past couple months I have been making an effort to feed my family even better. So, Kelly's class came at the perfect time. It was a little boost in my efforts, she talked alot about feeding your family with whole foods, which is exactly what I would like to strive for. We do somewhat, but there is definitely room for improvement, and let's be honest, there probably always will be. No one is perfect and with what we are presented in regards to food, it can be hard to eat whole foods. As long as I am trying, I will be happy, and it always helps to have that little boost of encouragement at times. Also at the class, Kelly had a friend of hers come and talk to us about Doterra essential oils. Kay, I am super excited about these. I have been somewhat familiar with essential oils, having a Dad who is into herbs and vitamins. After learning just a little bit about these oils, I am super excited to try them out, we have many things in our little family that could benefit from a bit of natural healing; Diabetes, hypoglycemia, reoccurring urinary tract infections, asthma, allergies, migraines, anxiety. Are you happy to know all of our problems? :)
I ordered a family physician kit that has 10 different oils in it, I thought it was a good place to start. I'll let you know how we like them.
I've been trying to find better options for breakfast lately. I made this granola the other day with a few changes: I didn't add the brown sugar, and I added some flax seeds to it after it was baked. Casey and I like it, the kids like it without milk. I may still have to experiment to find a recipe my kids like with milk. I also made these Mormon muffins, these are so good! We went to The Rainbow Gardens restaurant awhile ago and they served Mormon Muffins with our meals (which were also delish) and Casey and I loved them, so I was so happy to see that they had the recipe on their site. You must eat them with honey butter, so yummy! I made them exactly as the recipe says, but next time I make them, I am going to use butter instead of shortening, shortening grosses me out. If you make them, you will want to half the recipe, I did and it made about 27 muffins, filling each about 3/4 full of batter.

Now I am off to do some cleaning, hang out with the kids (they don't have school today), and hopefully get some sewing projects done.

fabric, a sneak peek, and a confession

I couldn't help but to purchase some Ruby Star Rising, I absolutely love this fabric. I mean seriously, view masters, transistor radios, and tea pots? Here's where I purchased mine.

It's killing me not to be able to show you this quilt I have been working on. I think it is my favorite quilt I have made so far. I just have the binding left to finish on it. But I can't show you it until after I give it to my sister who is having a baby boy who will be named Preston.
I guess I am just going to have to be patient and wait until after the shower, it's going to be a few weeks. It's the cutest thing ever though, I promise, my girls even want to keep it for themselves.

Here's the confession part of the post:
I spent my entire evening (cough cough, like 4 or so hours cough cough) last night looking online for anything to do with American Girl dolls. You see, Santa brought Kinsley an American Girl doll for Christmas and now for her Birthday she wants more outfits for it. The thing is, that Santa had a really hard time forking over the $100 for the doll and $28 for one extra outfit, Santa doesn't even want to mention how much it cost to get it shipped.
Now maybe you are thinking hey, that Vintage Fern girl knows how to sew, why doesn't she just make clothes? Well, I will make some, but the thought of sewing little tiny clothes from a pattern makes me want to pull my hair out and say bad words. I told Kinsley I will make a pillowcase dress and some skirts and a tutu, and maybe a few other simple things, but that is as far as I go. Enter spending my entire night online searching through tons of listings on Etsy, googling 18" doll clothes and tutorials, and searching local KSL ads. I was also looking into crochet patterns, I have an aunt that has awesome crochet skills and I think I may ask her to crochet some things. In the end, I ordered a couple outfits that Kinsley had picked out because Nana (my mom) wanted her to find something for her Birthday that is coming up next month.
And then, through my searches on KSL, I found this cute shop online Daydream Doll Boutique.
They have well priced cute things, and I spent forever deciding what few things to get to go with what I will be making for her. I feel like kindof a dork, but I am super excited now about making a few things and getting everything put together for her Birthday.
I may feel like even more of a dork in April, my Mom is taking my 3 sisters and I to the Mall of America, and guess what store is there? The American Girl Store, I will probably get just as excited to go look in there :)

Weekend happenings

I worked on a few sewing projects over the weekend, I made new covers for two of the pillows on our bed. I used two screen printed tea towels that I purchased at the Beehive Bazaar. They are from The Full Spectrum. She made the screen prints from some of her Grandmother's doilies, so cute!

The back of the pillows I used some of Denyse Schmidt's County Fair that I have been hoarding.

Other weekend happenings:
Made good progress on my quilt top from the last post. I may finish it up today!
Accumulated more fabric :)
Picked up our Bountiful Basket on Saturday. I am loving participating in it. There is a different selection of produce every time we do it and we get to try some new things which I think has been fun. Some of my kids on the other hand, namely Jade and Sage sometimes don't love it so much. Jade and Sage can at times be super picky eaters. We got brussel sprouts in our basket this time, which I was kindof excited to try. I had never had brussel sprouts and we found a yummy recipe to try, we roasted them with some olive oil, salt and pepper, and some bacon, and OH MY GOODNESS, they were heaven. Jade and Sage didn't think so though :) Sage eventually ate hers, but Jade had a few bites (while crying I might add) and then she was making herself gag so much that she threw up. NICE. After that she went to bed early, oh the joys of having children sometimes :)

A couple weeks ago, I won Long arm quilting from The Back Porch Quilters from a giveaway that Dana held in the Old Red Barn Co. quilt along flickr group. I can't tell you how excited I am for this! Plus, it's a push for me to get this quilt done. It is going to be for my bed and I am loving it so far. Everyone did such a great job on the blocks, and I decided to piece them together in a improvisational/ Gee's Bend sort of way.

When I go to just check out a new to me quilt shop and I am not going to purchase anything :)

I think I am going to make a skirt out of them but minus the polka dot near the bottom, and I think I'll add a blue in there.
Sometimes I can tell my mood when I make a fabric purchase, or I just tend to prefer certain colors or patterns some days. I am quite happy with my little bundle of fabric today, it looks so fun together.
I'm off to go chop it up!

Pom poms

Yesterday I bought myself a pom pom maker. I love it, I made up a whole bunch and made them into these hair pins.

Then Jade and Sage asked for headbands.
Jade wanted a flower.

Sage wanted three pom poms.

I'm officially addicted to making pom poms, and tomorrow I am going to get some bigger pom pom makers. Now if you will excuse me I think I am going to go make some more :)
